Our round-the-room format is a relaxed and friendly affair. You can sing a song or play a tune, but if you dance or are a story teller then that adds nicely to the mix. There's also plenty of room for those who just want to listen, or maybe join in a chorus or an occasional session tune.
We have a half-time break for the re-charging of glasses, general chit-chat, and- of course- a raffle.
No need to book in advance.
Doors open 7pm.

The future looks exciting for PLUMHALL, as they have just been selected by the legendary FAIRPORT CONVENTION to open for them on their winter tour Feb/Mar 2024. With a third album imminent, they continue to evolve and captivate audiences everywhere.
Nottingham songwriter Phil Langran’s songs are engaging, accessible and deeply poetic. His talented and versatile band – Phil (vocals and acoustic guitar), Steve Benford (acoustic guitar, banjo, vocals), Mark Walker (bass, vocals), Frank McCarthy (electric guitar, vocals) and Alistair Bloomfield (fiddle) – creates a unique sound, interweaving elements of American, Celtic, folk and blues traditions. In performance they shift effortlessly from moving ballads to flat out traditional stomps and laid-back blues.
Band albums include ‘This Day’,‘Juke Box Love Songs’, ‘Still The Heart’ and ‘The Distance’. Phil has also recorded a couple of solo albums produced by and featuring Boo Hewerdine and Chris Pepper: ‘Skywriting’ (2019) and ‘Falling Light’, released in September 2022, and described by Boo as ‘wondrous’.
“Music that just seems to flow effortlessly”, Alan Clifford, BBC Radio Notts
“A fabulous writer”, Kathryn Williams
“A wonderful songwriter”, Boo Hewerdine

Kris Drever Harmonic Alchemist
Kris Drever originally comes from Hrossey in the Orkney Islands. Over the years, he has taught himself to be a songwriter, guitarist and singer of note (and sometimes many notes).
As well as creating award-winning original songs and instrumental pieces with the trio Lau, he has had a fruitful solo career exploring the cracks between classic and modern songwriting and the traditional music that he comes from.
Drever’s sound is rooted in the earthy and hypnotic rhythms of much older music, but there’s a sophistication to both the lyricism and the instrumentalism which places him skilfully in the present.
He has an extensive collection of BBCR2 Folk awards, plus a fistful of Scottish NaTrads awards for everything from best album, best singer and best live act to best original song.
He has worked with many excellent musicians, including Jack Bruce, Eddi Reader, Mark Knopfler, Jerry Douglas and Roddy Woomble, and is a member of the beautiful multi-media project Spell Songs: The Lost Words.
Currently, Kris is preparing for a series of Lau events around the UK, writing music for a new solo album and learning some old tunes for reasons he can’t quite explain.
Magpie Lane is a five-piece band from Oxford, specialising in traditional English songs and dance tunes, playing lesser-known material from the archives alongside well-worn favourites. The band’s Christmas repertoire contains a good helping of folk carols and wassails, plus lively seasonal dance tunes and secular songs – both traditional and modern – on a variety of Christmas and Winter themes.
The band’s front man, Ian Giles, is blessed with one of the finest voices on the folk scene: warm and mellow, but with great power when required. With four lead vocalists the quality of the singing – whether individually or in harmony – is never in doubt. This vocal strength is matched by the band’s instrumental prowess, accompaniments being sensitive or rollicking as each song demands. And when it comes to playing dance tunes, the front line of Mat Green and Andy Turner on fiddle and concertina has few peers. Jon Fletcher and Sophie Thurman complete the line-up, with gorgeously-played guitar, bouzouki and cello. With over 30 years of live performance, and ten critically-acclaimed albums under their belt, you’re assured of a good night out. Magpie Lane website
